Thai Moon Saloon - Film Synopsis

Penn Gwinn and his D.I.A. partner remained in Thailand after the Viet Nam war, and opened a saloon. They expected to retire, but Kahn Su, the warlord of the Shan State in the Golden Triangle, known as the Prince of Darkness, forced them to get involved against opium smuggling and in the inter-agency battles of the D.I.A., C.I.A., and D.E.A.

Kwan Lee, the female saloon manager, finds an American woman visitor in the saloon. She is Connie, the sister of one of Penn's agency partners killed in the war. She is also a trained field agent with Penn's former agency, and her non-sanctioned purpose in Bangkok is to engage Penn and Starret in her efforts to eradicate Kahn Su's poppy growing fields.

The head of Asian Operations of the agency sends two inept agents out to stop Connie, because her plans are non-sanctioned, and to cover himself if anything goes wrong. And it does. Penn and Starret refuse to join in Connie's plan, so she decides to go it alone by engaging TsongTsing, one of two Thai brothers known to the agency as a reliable source in the country. When she visits TsongTsing, they are attacked by a member of the red dragon society, who is killed, and a Thai female, who kills TsongTsing and captures Connie.

Penn and Starret, concerned by Connie's lingering absence, visit TsongTsing, find him dead, and find the body of the attacker. The tie between the red dragon tattoo and Kahn Su is established, and they decide to rescue Connie.

Penn, Starret, TsongTsing's brother and two friends mount an expedition to the Shan State. In their rescue, they come face to face with a CIA agent assisting Kahn Su in his maneuvering to escape the many bombing attacks and raids on his compounds directed by the DEA. They also meet Lunao, one of their former South Viet Namese translators they thought was killed in a raid during the war. He survived, and became the right hand man of Kwan Su. He also has the red dragon tattoo. Kanh Su's compound is destroyed by the rescue, and Connie's method of destroying the poppy crops is applied.

After the rescue, the two inept agents confront Penn, Starret and Connie in the saloon, but their attempts to control Connie is met by considerable martial arts action. In the action, they are interrupted by the intrusion of Kwan Lee, the lieutenant of the Red Dragon society run by her brother, Lunao.

Action, movement, and revealing facts make this one of the most interesting of the Penn Gwinn action/adventure series.
